Key Responsibilities
As a Security Officer at SMU, your primary duties will include:
- Access Control: Ensure that only authorized individuals enter the campus by verifying access cards and conducting searches when necessary.
- Patrol Duties: Regularly patrol campus grounds to monitor for suspicious activities and ensure the safety of all campus areas.
- Crime Prevention: Identify and report potential security risks, such as broken windows or unlocked doors, to prevent incidents before they occur.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to alarms and emergencies, providing assistance and coordinating with the Control Room as needed.
- Traffic and Parking Management: Oversee traffic flow and enforce parking regulations to ensure a smooth and safe environment for all campus users.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of incidents and activities, providing detailed reports to the Chief Security Officer.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Security Certification: PSIRA Grade C certification.
- Experience: At least 3 years of security experience; experience in a tertiary environment is advantageous.
- Driver’s License: Valid South African driver’s license (Code 8/EB).
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks and remain alert during shifts.
- Background Check: No criminal record.
- Shift Work: Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays.
